My hairstylist said an auburn color would look great on me, so I went for it. I'm not fond of the color and would like to lighten it to blond eventually. I don't have the $180 to shell out on a professional so I'm wondering if color fix could lighten the auburn [reddish brown] color and then condition it with loreal pre primer then cover it with an ash blond. Maybe with a toner after or no? If not color fix, then how about mixing bleach with shampoo? I don't trust myself or my hair with the regular bleaching process. Thanks!!

Sorry to hear you don't like the auburn -- that kind of sucks!
You're in luck though, because red-based colours are the hardest to hold in your hair. They fade pretty consistently. However, (ironically) red is also hard to completely get out of the hair! Ugggh. How about first trying some Dawn dishsoap on it for several washes and see if it fades. If you want it completely gone, then the ColorFix is probably a good idea and then the ash blonde over it. I would say go with the ColorFix first to remove and if it doesn't get it all out, THEN do a bleach soap cap (bleach and shampoo and peroxide). That should do the trick!

I have used color oops and had hardly any damage at all.And it says on the website that is not supposed to be damaging.What exact "professional" color remover would you recommend then?
Many people here have used the deterent advice and I have even been told to do it by a few professionals.Yes,it can be drying,but it's nothing a little extra condioner wont fix.

Jules, that's a good point; I have heard the same thing about Color Oops. It is possible, like Color Fix, that it does shrink the dye molecules instead of bleach them out. There's nothing wrong with boxed products although many professionals would like to tell us otherwise!

I think there have a been a few other people here who like Schwarztopf.
Color oops was non damaging,but I'm not sure I did it right.It took my brown hair to a light strawberry blonde,but when I tried to go even lighter,it went darker.
Maybe I did something wrong though~because the remarks on here say to rinse really well and I'm not sure I did.
