extensions for layered wavy hair with bangs ?

Aloha everyone I have a few questions about extensions...
 
 
right now my hair is thick, naturally wavy (and I live in a humid environment) and I've been using henna to color it for ten years with great results.  I use little or no styling products and heat so my hair is healthy.
 
Last month i had side swept bangs cut and I don't like it at all..my bangs don't stay straight even after a flat iron (it's the only place I use the flat iron) so I want to grow them out again.  The rest of my hair is layered, and is a few inches above boob length :)
 
I've been wanting to get some clip in extensions for some time and bought some real hair ones, they are long and very straight.  I find that the only way they work well with my hair is if I blow dry my hair straight and then clip them in so the entire head is straight.  But that takes a lot of time..I have a baby and own a business and it's very time consuming.
 
So I've considered getting hair extensions glued or sewn in , looking into different techniques right now..
 
My question is, would I want to buy naturally wavy extensions so that they look natural with my own wavy hair (I'm not talking perm wavy, they are soft waves) .  Or would I just get straight extensions and just have to curl them? 
 
Also if i have the semi-permanent extensions sewn or glued in, I'd like to go a few shades darker than the top layer that is henna'd ..maybe a darker brown with henna highlights.  After I henna my natural hair it turns out deep auburn and i love it but I'd like the hair extensions to add length and also a color difference ..sort of two tone I guess:)
 
 
any thoughts on this?

Hi Jes,

It all depends on how much maintenance you are willing to put up with.  Some people are ok with having to curl the hair to match everyday.  If you swim or wear your hair out wet, after air drying, you will be able to see the differences with the wavy and straight.  You may be better off with a light install of the best texture that matches your hair.  You can go the keratin (oh please dont say glue...you will be in lots of trouble with glue) route and use different shaded extensions to highlight instead of dying your hair and striping the color.   Keep sweeping the bangs to the side of pull them up and back and in no time they will grow out.  I know there are bang extensions on the market but I am not certain of their quality or wear.  Since this I believe would be your first extension set, be sure to ask the stylist for credentials.  You dont want to be scared away from the process as the right people will give you amazing results!  Good luck and keep us posted!

thank you so much for your response, Renee.  I'm willing to put up with the maintenance, I just love how they look. 
 
is it possible to just get a row or two way down by the nape of the neck to add length? I certainly dont need volume, i have thick strong hair and it's cut in layers right now (that will better hide the extensions too, wont it)
 
I'm considering the sewn in style extensions because from what i have been reading they will work well with my thick hair :)

No problem!  Its hard to make that decision without seeing the layers in person.  I would say if they layer it well it may work, but again, I dont want to make that judgement and say  yes of course. A great stylist would be able to help you better make that decision.  If your hair is a suitable candidate for sewn in and the 2 layers work, go for it! :)  Keep us posted and send up pics!  Would love to see how it all pans out!
