okay... so after 2-3 months of having dull black hair i used "the one'n'only' colorfix to basically strip it back to my "natural" color (heaven knows ive colored my hair so many times my natural color doesnt exist anymore). well anyways, for the most part it worked. as far as i can tell all of the black is gone and now my hair is a dark brown with a more lighter brown on top.
what i want to know is, after a few days to let my hair relax, can i use a brown lightener (such as garnier nutri browns) to lighten my now dark brown hair to a lighter brown? or should i just get a really light brown and redye my hair with that? will the brown lightener even work? and if i should just redye with another color just how many shades lighter do i need to go, since after using colorfix my hair is more porious and will take color too much, to get light golden brown hair?
Well since you used the color remover and it worked, I suggest going ahead and go a couple of shades lighter.
The best rule of thumb on this one is to do a strand test....that's the only way to know for sure how your hair is going to take the color. The only thing you need to worry about is : If you go more than 3 shades lighter you are going to bring out some red in your brown hair, since it's a dark brown. That's part of the lightening process. Of course that may be ok with you.....if not, then just be careful not to go "too light.'
I think 3 shades lighter would actually put you at level 5 which I think is light brown, so you may be ok :-)

Yeah, Sophia has a point. You may be able to use regular colour, but we don't know what level your hair is. If it's a Level 4 or 5 medium brown and you want lighter brown, then the garnier ultra lift brown would work, but so would an ash blonde or brown colour (Level 7). Remember, though, your hair WILL NOT be ash or even neutral; it will be golden or brassy brown. Lifting your hair (even with an ash colour) will bring out the underlying pigment and it will be very warm. You may have to go back over it with a neutral light brown AFTER your initial colour!

After stripping your hair you should not use a permanent color to go lighter. most likely the color wont take evenly and will grab.what you can do is foil some darker pieces then tone.but wait a week or so.
