My hair is doing insane things! I have started to notice something over the past few weeks. I have long, straight, usually smooth hair. On the top of my head are MANY coarse, kink-y/curly, darker hairs that stick out. At first I was pulling them out, but I need to stop. There are way too many of them. I don't know what to do. I blow-dry my hair daily but I use Thermasilk mousse to protect it. I usually curl the ends with a warm curling iron. I also deep condition twice a week. I need help! I need to know what these stupid hairs are, what caused them, and what I can do. They don't look that bad, but they annoy me!

3 words: CLASSIC HEAT DAMAGE

Suggestions:

(1) STOP using heat (and please stop pulling your hair out). Re-think your hair-style to one that you can let dry naturally.

(2) DEEP condition your hair. And use a leave-in conditioner or wax to smooth the damaged hair

(3) REDUCE the frequency with which you shampoo if it is more than twice a week.

(4) DON'T apply any harsh chemicals to your hair such as perms, hair colourants, straightening treatments etc.

Good luck.

Uzi

Amen to that uzma. Heed her words--she speaks the truth. Let me add patience to that list as well--growing out damaged hair is a long process. In the meantime, try not to cause further damage if you can help it. Good luck!
