I won't mention any names and will keep this brief but due to the installation of extensions a few days ago using the cornrow/sew in method, my head is aching like crazy and the skin where the cornrows is , is red and swollen and painful to the touch.

I don't know enough about the process to comment on what may have caused this, i'm not here to blame the extensionist who put them in, but i do remember reading an article here that said if it hurts, get out of there.  which is what i should have done when, during the installation, it hurt, BADLY.  From the shampooing (which should not hurt) to the braiding to the sewing, every bit of it hurt.  I've had two kids and know what pain really is, and this was bad pain.

When i came home the pain was so bad I started taking Tylenol around the clock, it was so bad I couldnt sleep.  The extensionist offered to replace one of the wefts (there were three) with a lighter weight one, but all three braids were hurting.  I was seriously scared of the thought  of going back and having to deal with more pulling.

On the third day the pain was driving me insane, yes I did read that discomfort is common (thanks for posting) but I went to a stylist today who carefully removed them and she helped me by taking pictures of my scalp where the skin was red, swollen and very painful.  It hurts to brush my hair still, or touch the area. I know I lost a bit of hair.

I was in quick, accurate communication with the extensionist the entire time this was happening.  I told her how bad they were hurting..again I didnt go back to her because i couldnt deal with more pulling (and she's a few hour drive away..i had to have them removed TODAY).

Am not here to talk anyone out of extensions because I'm still hoping to make my own with clip in combs and wear them and take them out at the end of the day, but a few things i would do different :

1) have everything spelled out before any work starts.  know the process, why it's done that way, the prices, the length of time, and most importantly what could go wrong and your options for refund

2) if shampooing hurts then you better not sit down for braiding and sewing

3) take before and after photos and document all communication (email is wonderful...no second guessing on conversations, it's all in black and white)  take photos.  did i mention take photos?

4) get a second opinion from another stylist and maybe a third and a fourth

5) read the article here about how ..if it hurts, get out of there.  i should have listened

6)trust your instinct if you know something isn't right

well my crown of thorns has been removed and i'll not be getting anything installed again any time soon..clip ins suddenly seem fine for me
