QuoteReplyTopic: I did at home color, but NOT with box color Posted: October 29 2008 at 3:30pm
I finally wised up, went to Sally's, bought some developer, three bottles of color, a cape and gloves and got my hair colored (I didn't do it myself, my sister helped me out - thankfully)
it's a nice dark brown/burgundy color. it turned out great it took over three hours to do, but it was worth it
with all the supplies I got plus a Sally's card, I still spent under $30.00
my sister and I figured I saved over $100.00 having her do my hair instead of going to a salon
I am at 32"

I love the color!! It looks fabulous! I just discovered the world of coloring myself after about 20 years of paying to have it done. I spent $34 the second time I went to Sally's, and that will cover a touch up in 6 weeks too! I am so glad that I found this forum......
I know 3 hours sounds like a long time, but I assume that since you probably didn't leave the dye on near that long, it was all application time. Your sis (or you) will get much faster at it with practice. It used to take me a long time, but now I can do my whole head in about 5 min.
It looks great! Congrats! Ooooh yes, you save SOOO much money! With
my big $5 bottle of developer and using only 1/3 to 1/4 of a dye bottle
each time I do my roots, I figure a root job costs me about a dollar
fifty.

Great colour, looks fab. I totally understand with the cost to have your hair done. I work as a stylist in a salon here in the UK, although our prices a pretty good, we do lots of offers off colouring treatment, and we have a half price day for pensioners, which is a very busy day indeed, lol. I always try to recommend the cheaper option for client when I can ( not meaning I cut corners) but money is tight for everyone especially with Christmas round the corner, and here in the UK we are in the mids of a recession, so every penny counts.
Looks great ! I also stopped going to a salon and learned how to do my own hair...with a little help. It is sooooo worth it. You will save so much money. And the discount card at Sally's really does save you lots....congrats !
