Spiky Hair

Hello, I am here and just hoping this is the right place to ask this.

My hair will never spike up, Some times it does some times it wont and I have been spiking my hair since I was 7 years old and now I'm 16. rather my hairs
Sometimes long or short (long being 2 to 3 inches high short being 3 to 4 cm high) ill use some cheap 2 dollar gel or 7 dollar glue gel my hair always falls.
Its been like this for a while and am sick of it so. I put lot of gel sometimes, Other times little and nothing changes once in a great while it will stand up just the way I like (If you need pic of my hair the way I like just ask).
Does taking a shower effect the way my hair spikes up? I take shower before spiking, dry my hair then spike it sometimes my hairs moist sometimes dry but then same result. I just dont know what to do anymore.
