I have colored my hair at home before, but used a different brand.  I chose new brand because I have been using their root-touch-up kit & liked it.  This color is exactly the shade I wanted, but I cannot get the oily residue out of my scalp & hair.  (my hair was naturally oily most of my life until recently, when it has taken on a more normal texture after I was started on thyroid meds). Any ideas?

Glad you got a nice shade!  I'm not sure why your hair would be oily now, usually hair is too dry after dye.  If its a residue left over, try a clarifying shampoo or a baking soda/shampoo 50/50 mix.  This is not good for dye really, it can make some fade.  My hair is blonde and I used it on mine with no trouble...you could always test strand that.

If its not a residue and your scalp just gets oilier than it used to, try washing with diluted shampoo instead of concentrated (mix a small amount of yours in a bottle with water, half and half is good, you may be able to do 1/4 shampoo only, roll to mix - don't shake).  It can help your scalp readjust if its just making too much oil because its getting overdried.

I'm not familiar with thyroid meds, so if that is what's causing it, I don't know what to do about that.
