QuoteReplyTopic: Question about toner Posted: November 19 2008 at 5:22pm
I dyed my hair an extra light ash blonde at home (using Garnier Nutrisse) and it turned out awesome, except that my roots are brassy. So I went to Sally's today and the saleslady there suggested Wella Color Charm toner in Ivory Lady T10. My question is, do I use this on wet or dry hair? And should I wash my hair first? Also, how long do I leave it on? Should I only apply it to my roots?
TIA for any help! :)

Apply to dry hair, and if its only your roots that are brassy, then only apply it to the root area, then just as your about to wash off, emulsify the remainder of the colour through the rest of your hair just for a min or 2, just to blend the whole head. Time depending on the result you want to achieve, apply but keep a close eye on the development, as its very visual, anything from 3 Min's to 10 Min's.

Well, my hair turned out a bit greenish, but the lady at Sally's said that it will fade. I also bought some red shampoo to help cancel out the green. She said that my hair didn't look that bad though. :) What stinks though is my hair is still golden at the roots and bangs, but it doesn't look too bad. Here are a couple pics from after I toned. You can see how bright it is in the front and how golden it is on my bangs, roots and towards the back:
