Long Hair with Layers - How often do you get cuts?

I am growing out my hair and right now it is down to my mid-back. I like the length but I think I might keep it going. My hair is layered and tapered a bit to frame my face. Does anyone else have a similar cut or style? If so, I am just wondering how often you get the layers redone, as I feel like they grow out really quickly and I'm not sure if I am just being picky or what.
