Several weeks ago I bought the Biolustre kit and applied the product myself. I had a serious scare when it felt like I couldn't get the reconstructor out of my hair so I called the co. for advice, and they were very helpful. As it turns out, your hair might feel rough no matter how many times you rinse or shampoo it (I shampooed mine about 10 times!), but once you apply the conditioning sealant, the roughness will completely disappear.

I used the product one week after having my hair relaxed (I am an African-American with very weak, thin hair strands and a dry scalp) as directed on some website I came across. It really did improve the quality and strength of my hair to the point where even my beautician noticed. She was setting my hair, she commented that there was no absolutely no breakage even while combing my wet hair.

HOWEVER, there are three really important things for most African-American women to keep in mind if they're going to use this product. The first is that this treatment might make your hair feel a little "plasticky" as time goes on and your regular hair care products might not have the same effect on your hair as they did before. So, I found that I got the best results when using the Daily Treatment Shampoo followed by the Conditioning Sealant as part of my maintenance routine. In fact, I use the treatment shampoo as directed, leaving it on between five and 10 minutes. (I often use a different shampoo beforehand, maybe something to treat my scalp or thinning hair, and then the treatment shampoo).

The second thing to keep in mind is that you need to keep your hair and scalp moisturized after applying a Biolustre treatment. So you might need to wash and condition your hair more frequently than you did before. If you already do so once a week, that should be enough. If you wait longer than that, your hair might start to feel dry and plasticky, and could start breaking. Just be sure not to neglect your scalp. Most white women don't have to worry about oiling or moisturizing their scalps, but most black women do.

The third thing to keep in mind is that contrary to the product's claims, it could actually cause BREAKAGE as the weeks wear on having had your hair relaxed. As most African-American women know, the weakest point on a strand of hair is where the new growth meets the part that is relaxed. Most of us experience breakage as a result. Well, the Biolustre treatment seems to accentuate this weak point. I guess because now you have a point where the new growth meets the Biolustred part of your hair strand which is now plasticky, as I mentioned before, and stronger than your hair was before. So don't wait a long time between touch-ups.

The bottom line is that I will use the treatment again -- I just had my hair relaxed again -- but I will wait until two weeks afterwards instead of one week like I did before. The reason is that I think the treatment and final styling processes themselves might have been a little too rough on my hair. I dried my hair a total of three times, twice when applying the Biolustre treatment and then a third time to style it. So, I think my hair needs a little more time to adjust. I will use the treatment shampoo and sealant in the interim.

And, lastly, I don't recommend that anyone use the treatment and then go into braids. The reason is that your hair and scalp need to stay moisturized after a Biolustre treatment and having your hair braided will prevent this.

Thanks for the info!

This sounds just like the aphogee treatment. It's for seriously weak hair and breakage but if you don't do exactly what the instructions say you run the risk of all your hair breaking right off!

Scary thought!

Thanks for the through review though. Awesome stuff!
