Dark Blonde, dyed medium blonde, can I go brown?

Hi,
I have dark ash blonde to light brown mouse colored hair which I dyed with an at home kit to medium golden blonde.  It looks alright, but is not what I want.  I have about 1" roots of light brown but would like to go even a little darker to a nuetral color.  My skin is olive so I cannot go too warm.  I am afraid of going green or any other hair nightmare and just have no time to go to the salon. 
A few years ago I used goldwell color conditioner in love brown to turn my highlights back to dark.  
I appreciate any advice.
