Japanese Hair Straighting or Rusk Str8?

Is the Rusk Str8 consitered "Japanese hair straightning"? My stylist sugguested the Rusk Anti curl but that only lasts 8-12 weeks. I want something that lasts longs... like the Rusk str8. My question is do you think it would be safe to do at home with help from a friend? They sell it on amazon for $64 and that sounds a lot better than $600!!
I've heard bad reviews about the Anti curl so I'm not sure if I wanna do that at all.
What do you think is the best thing to use and the best way to do this??
Trust the experts or at home??
