Hair Coloring

Just need some help on what went wrong and how I can fix it if possible. I had a light golden blond shade of hair with my roots getting darker of course because my natural hair color is med brown. So instead of going with the norm which would be Garnier Nutrisse or some other brand in the grocery store I decided to try something different. Iwent to the beauty supply place and got Color Charm activating lotion with Color CharmDemi-Permanent color 9NG Very Light Golden Blonde. I mixed as it says. Let it stay in for a while. Rinsed and now I have a dark blonde with some red in the roots. Didn't work and I don't like it. Just don't know what to do. Now I resect all of you that have gone to beauty school. My hubby just doesn't want to pay the money for me to get it done from the salon. Money issues. What can I do to get my color back to blonde and my roots to match. Please help!
