QuoteReplyTopic: help - how can i color platinum/gray hair to blond Posted: February 21 2009 at 1:02am
I have gray/silver hair, I am only 42. I used to bleach my brown hair to get blond (light blond)... now since I have cut the old hair away, (off), I have this head of hair that I hate. None of the products in the grocery store show my color on the box, and most say do not use with silver or gray hair.
What can I do? I can't afford to go to a salon and have it done, this has to be a product that can be bought either online or in the store? Any suggestions?

Yes. Grey hair does turn blonde when bleached. It may not do so evenly, so a toner may be required to get the desired color afterwards. Grey hair is very difficult to color with actual tint because it lacks some of the qualities of hair that still has pigment. The hair does not respond as well to the types of dyes used on hair with more pigment, as those need the pigment molecules within the hair to bind to. They do make tints specifically designed for grey and other hard to color types of hair, but they don't always perform as well as hoped.
