QuoteReplyTopic: Changing from red to blond Posted: March 04 2009 at 1:32pm
Hi all I have been dying my hair a deep auburn for quite some time now. I am a natural dirty blond (eww.) My hair holds onto color really well. It has been over four months since I last dyed it. It has grown out about three inches. I want to go back to a nice blond color but I know that more than likely it won't happen unless I strip the current color from hair. What are the best products to use at home? No I am not going to a salon. The only time I had my hair professionally dyed it cost over $100 for medium-length fine hair mind you it was dyed one color no highlights or anything. Any advice is greatly appreciated. TIA

This is a risky at home color job. I would recommend going to a salon, yes, you are going to pay but it's very difficult to do yourself. But, IF YOU MUST, I would recommend and oil based or cream based bleach, that you will apply to the ends only (where the red is). I would recommend trying a medium brown first because i can almost gaurantee that red will not lift to anything but a orangy blonde. You will need to lift the ends to the same level as the regrowth and then color over all of your hair. You can try to tone the orangy blonde but red id the hardest color to lift out of your hair. Hope I could be of some help.
