QuoteReplyTopic: What am I doing wrong......? Posted: March 08 2009 at 12:50am
This is my first lace front unit and I got it from lacefrontwigsforyou. Needless to say the problem I am having is with adhesive. I purchased the Ultra Hold glue and have taking every step I can think of to make it hold and am having no luck. I have shaved my hairline just to make sure there is nothing in the way, rubbed alcohol 3 times around the whole perimeter, used scalp protector to the bottles specifications and then applied a THIN layer of of the glue....let it sit for 10 minutes and then applied the lace. I can get it to hold for about 2 maybe 3 days tops and then it starts lifting. I havent washed it since I got it and am in fear to wash it on as I am afraid it will lift completely. I am tired of applying, removing, cleaning lace, and going through the process over again. I have a function I am going to on Tuesday and need to make sure it stays and looks good throughout the week as I will be out of town.
PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT I AM DOING WRONG!!!!
Thanks

maybe adding an adhesive tape like Super Tape, Walker No Shine Tape, or Pro Flex (http://www.hairdirect.com/store/Liquid-Adhesives.aspx) or changing your adhesive. Some adhesives don't work for everyone. A lot of us go through at least 4 or 5 adhesives before we find the magic ones that work for us.
Thanks for the reply. My trip was horrible as I was in L.A. which as a lot more humidity then we got here in the Rocky Mountains and I couldnt get it to stay for nothing. I was afraid to work out or go swimming!
When I got back I ordered some EndurBond and ORWG along with No Tape (blue tube) and some tape. Not sure how to use the no tape as it dries really quick and I cant seem to get a hold with it. Am I supposed to use it and then tape on top of it???
As far as the EnduraBond....WOW IT HOLDS! The only thing I am having a problem with is it turns the hairline hard and where ever I put it seems to turn weight so doesnt work for the invisible look.
I am literally in the middle of my own nightmare. I have no hair of my own to speak of and am trying still be beautiful at 30 and things just keep getting worse. The LF I bought must not have been good quality as no matter what knot sealer I use I have lost over half the hair in a month. It is so incredibly thin now dut to light tangling and me just brushing normally....like when I wake up in the morning. You can actually look and see in the lace bald spots there. I dont have money to buy another one so dissappointed that I got ripped off to begin with and this hair has only lasted not even 2 months. Maybe God just doesnt want me to have hair...lol. I am almost ready to give up and just go bald for the rest of my life but that is a self esteem buster. Oh and can you imagine how it feels when your significant other realizes your hair is not your hair as its very detectable....lol.
Off topic so thanks for the reply Lrigyttiw. This girl needs all the help she can get. I love the fact of the LF but dont know where to go from here....besides turning into a hermit for the rest of my life.

You might want to go ahead a get a new full lace....
As far as the glue
Davlyn works wonders for me I get a least a 2-3 week hold with the tape
I use proflex II tape
First I clean my edges with 99 or 91 % alcohol...
You can have a option of shaving or not (shaving will hold better)
I use cream hair remover, so not to have razor bumps
I use liquid bandage...(it might sting a little after the hair removing)
two layers of the skin protector
one thin layer (I use a pop cycle stick cuz it goes on smooth and thin)
one layer of davlyn glue
let dry for 5 minutes
put the tape on both my temples and on the back. (apply front first completely then do the back it is less mess)
I put 2 - more layers of glue letting each layer sit 7 - 10 min. U can use a blow dryer on cool setting to help dry. then I lay the front down first, with a comb (your hand have too much oil ) or you can use latex gloves
then I lay the sides down I have the wig flip up in the front and the babyhairs clipped out of the way....then I do the back and the girl is on and poppin....tie your edges down with a satin scarf and that should do it.. It works for me any way and like the young lady said you have to go through a few glues to know what is right for you another good glue is High Definitions white bonding glue...The key is letting the glue thoroughly dry. Use the other glue that you brought for touch ups only, so it is not a total waste....I know I am long winded, but I wanted to help you and let you know that all is not lost...get a nother wig and keep it moving...Look at my website www.klacewigs.com and get help there if you like....blessings

I am a lace wig addict, I get my daily fix from www.klacewigs.com
I did end up ordering another unit on Monday and even paid for rush shipping. Should be here today I am hoping. I also ordered some Davlyn Green and Invsi-Bond so going to try the DG first as I have heard some great things about it. One thing for sure with all the trouble I had with the first one I think my app skills are down...not perfect....but I sure have gotten my practice....lol.
I am going to North Carolina from May-June and would like to find something before hand that I think will handle the humidity on the coast there also. I am a fitness coach also and love to swim so need a good hold. Thinking I might stop by Miss Lola's while I am there since I will be in the same community...lol.
I appreciate your help and will definitly try it today with my new LF. I have the liquid bandage and everything else (different tape though) so hopefully this will work.
So you layer Dg, Tape, DG, DG right? Just to be clear? And only tape at the temples and nape? Those are definitly my problem areas and the first to lift!
Thanks for your help royaltee and I will let you know how it turns out!

It does take a lot of experimenting to find the right adhesive for your body chemistry. I have found that Davlyn (Green) works great for me along with Tru Blue Tape. After cleaning my scalp with 91% alcohol and applying a scalp protector I apply 2-3 layers of DG (allow to dry 10 min between each layer) i apply the tape to the unit at the temples and nape area. After application tie a scarf around you perimeter for about 2 hour (or in my case go to bed) Be sure to apply this layers of the DG. I don't use the brush that comes with the DG, i use a small cheap thin artist paint brush.
I don't come here often. But I've seen you on BHM. I hope I've helped some.

Also, be careful with swimming. From what I have read you should wait 24-48 hrs after applying. Also it is good to wet your hair down with fresh water and braid it before going in the pool. Make sure to wash and condtion well afterwards.
Thanks for the tips. I never thought about the scarf trick until I read that today on BHM so will have to give it a try. Hopefully DG does wonders as I have read the reviews on it. Will keep you posted.
