Ms. Virginia 2008, Tara Wheeler, will go bald if...$500,000 is raised for St. Baldrick's Foundation (childhood cancer). She has cleared it with the pagent people. Probably safe, the highest amount raised before was $180,000.

I did a little reading on it and my guess is that she won't raise enough money but she'll go ahead with the head shaving. It would seem pretty weak and lame if she raised 200,000 and then didn't go thru with it. I think she'll see it as an opportunity to raise her profile. She'll probably wear a wig most of the time and use her baldness for shock value but yeah, I think she will be bald in a month.
And, for those of you with long memories, you'll remember that 10 years ago, Miss Virginia USA, Kellie Lightbourn, also donated her hair for a wig for a child she was friends with. Down to a pixie instead of a buzzcut, still a big donation. What is it with these Virginia beauty queens?
BTW, Kellie's hair has grown out impressively (after a foray into more "professional" styles while she had her TV gig in Tampa) and she was recently crowned Mrs. Florida United States. Check her out at www.kellielightbourn.com
3 pm is simultaneously too late and too early to start anything.

I'm not sure how it went back in the day for Kellie, but it seems Tara Wheeler is getting more attention for her buzz cut than she did for being Miss Virginia. I'm not impressed.

I think that these celebrity headshaves are 99% about PR. I'd never contribute a nickel to see a woman with gorgeous locks go bald. Bob
Only 99%? I would think more like 100%, but isn't PR the purpose of things like this? To raise awareness of something? Why is this a bad thing? Oh, right...
