This was stolen from http://www.newbasics.com/salon/feature4.html, so I thought I'd share it, as it was interesting!

#1 Hair Care Mistake — Let the Sun Shine In!
Don't make your tresses fight a solo battle.

Heat damage, color fading, green tints — your hair will be paying for it this vacation if you don’t take special care. Here are some tips on helping your hair survive warmer weather:

Go natural! Try not to blow-dry you hair or use heat styling tools as much. It will add to the heat damage from the sun and fade your hair color.

Use daily leave-in hair treatments with UV protectants. Make sure the bottle mentions a SPF level. This is the only way to be sure the treatment will protect your hair from damaging rays.

To prevent hair color from fading due to chlorine and salt-water exposure, rinse hair out immediately after taking a swim.

Condition! Condition! Condition! Now is the time to treat yourself to weekly deep conditioning treatments to replenish moisture the sun has stripped from your hair.

My hair is green! To keep chlorine from giving your dyed hair a green tint, wet your hair before swimming — it helps the hair to absorb less chlorine.

Do not apply lemon juice to your hair to create natural highlights, unless you want your hair to dry out.

Trying a new color for the summer? Be sure to do a strand test. Dry hair grabs color better and you may get a darker result than usual.

Since it's hot outside, try taking cool showers. Hot water will strip the color from your hair.

Buy a hat! The best defense against hair damage from the sun is to hide from it.

Thank you for that list Kaycee. How true. Yes, the sun does bring out those lovely golden highlights but anytime you hair permanently changes color it's been damaged--even if only a little. I picked up a couple of cute newsboy hats the other day in preparation for the summer. As much as I love wearing my hair down when I'm at the beach playing volleyball I conceal it as much possible. Not a lot of fun but it sure looks better come September!

On a related topic, what do you do in the summer for fun in the UK? In Michigan we have the beach on Lake Mich...but that's about it. Do you go to the ocean or to Europe or something else? It's been eight years since I visited your lovely country and I'm STILL nuts over it! :-)

Hey gorge!

Well, when we do actually get the sun here (damn odd spurts!!) I drive down to the what we call, the 'coast'. I miss the ocean, and sea *crries*. I miss the states!!!

I sometimes visit parts of Europe for mini-holidays. :D

Mostly, it's top down (on the car, not me. ;) and drive!!

Not forgetting my leavin conditioner, either. ;)
