With due respect to loveshorthair, it's not an improvement. And I'm not sure I get the plan here. She kept her trademark long thick bangs - which I like, since I think they look good as bangs and periodically swept to the side - and apparently blunt cut the length by removing the bottom 8 or so inches of layering.
So, she went from a very long, somewhat bohemian style (that she could reign in as necessary), to a just below shoulder-length cut that, with her hair thickness, looks weirdly transitional. In other words, it looks like she had a bob of some length that she is growing out to a longer style...one like she had before this over-pruning.
I'll be interested to see what this looks like in her typical less "done" mode on either the show or futher appearances. And really curious as to what the goal is here since, other than an oddly bland change, it's the shortest Zooey's hair has been in quite a while.
But, even given all of the above, I still think she's absolutely freakin' adorable.

The "somewhat bohemian style" and massive and long bangs sure suit her character. Check out the TV show "New Girl" on Fox, if you haven't already. I think you'll agree.
