Bleach blonde highlights to one colour?

Hey
 
Im looking for some advice.....
 
My hair is currently bleach blonde and golden blong highlights.  My natural colour is a dark blonde with about 7 weeks of growth showing.  Ive been getting these done professionally but really want to just go to all one colour, maybe a dark blonde of light brown.  Will home dye react with the highlights and make them go a bad colour?  Or should it cover up with lighter bits through?
 
Any help appreciated :)

If you want to go darker you will need to do a tint back.  Which means you need to add the red back to the highlights.  Otherwise, yes, the hair might turn green or some other undesirable color.  Think of the colorwheel when appying color.
