QuoteReplyTopic: What should I go for next? Posted: August 06 2009 at 1:10pm
Okay so I need hair help again. At the moment my hair is a bright copper red shade that is way too much maintenece, I mean I got it dyed on monday just gone and the ends are already a shade lighter than the top this is because at xmas last year I got it bleached all over and now the ends are porous plus I'm getting bored of having to avoid certain colors cause it clashes with my hair.
I have a couple of ideas but I cannot make my mind up so I'd like some help deciding. I'm crap at describing color too so if you could advise me what color to ask for according to what picture I'm showing you all.
AshleyTisdale.org | Photo Gallery medium brown maybe? but the ends look lighter what color would they be? is it a cool or warm brown?
The difficulty is trying to get the red copper from your hair with bleaching, as red tends to be the hardest colour to remove from the hair, and you could end up with a very golden blonde shade, that maybe even toning wont shift. I think your best bet is if you are set on going lighter, ie blonde again, then your better option is to use a colour remover first to rid your hair of as much colour as possible, and then gradually build up your blonde with hi lights, don't go for the all over bleach as this will totally damage your hair, as you said it is already pretty porous.
First picture is a light brown(level 5) dark blonde.(level 6)
Second picture looks like a dark blonde (level 6) with soft caramel hi lights.
Third picture is a medium brown (level 4)shade, lovely chocolate shade
Last picture looks like a medium blonde (level 7) with a mixture of ash blonde and beige hi lights.
As for using a semi or permanent colour go with a semi can be easier to remove this colour if you decide you don't like this shade of brown.
I hope this helps you a little.
Karen.

If your going for an all over brown then no you will not need to remove the colour, only if your wanting to go lighter I would recommend you use a colour remover. There are a few brands on the market Colour zap I have heard good things about, although cant seem to find here in the UK, another one that gets good reviews is colour oops. Yo may need to use colour remover twice all depending on how much colour build up you have on your hair, ie meaning colour on top of colour on top of colour.
I hope this helps a little, good luck

Go with a cool brown as this will neutralize the red, however it may take 2 application if your going with a semi, only because a semi washes out after a good few washes. So you may find you will need to do a second application within 4 weeks depending on how often you wash your hair. You will probably find its the bleaching that has caused most of the damage to your hair. You should notice a big difference in the condition of your hair.

I whish I had never had my hair bleached, it as literally ruined it and I'm trying very hard to stay away from it. I think in a way I'm addicted to blonde, I love the color but it doesn't even suit me.
I'm gonna ask you one more question you said go for a cool brown but I might need 2 application a month apart to get rid of the red tone if I'm using a semi, so if I was to use a permanent cool brown just to give my hair a base would that work better at neautrlizing the red tone and could I then just use semi permanent color to maintain my new shade?

Well the main reason I said 2 applications is I,m thinking if your hair is porous with the bleaching etc, the first application of your semi colour will most probably fade out very quickly, thats why I suggested you may need another application of the semi. The only problem with using a permanent colour is that as your a fan of blonde, lol, if you want to go back to your blonde again in the very near future, the permanent colour is harder to get back out of the hair, I am mainly thinking of the condition of your hair, well I would always give the same advice to my clients.
You could go with your semi in a cool brown (Ash brown) see how you get on with that, and you could always go with your permanent colour if you feel the semi is constantly fading out. The semi should remove any red warm tones, however this may take a few applications to rid your hair of the red. A permanent colour would rid the red in one application, but as I said above your a blonde lover, so removing permanent colour back out of the hair if you chose to go back to blonde will only cause more and more damage to your hair.
I hope this all makes sense to you, hunnie, lol. Who said colour theory was easy, lol
Meant to add, lol, if you opt for the permanent colour, then by using a semi for future applications the semi will give your root regrowth a different colour from the rest of your hair, as its new hair growth, plus semi only penetrate onto the surface of the hair shaft, permanent colour penetrate right into the middle of the hair shaft locking the colour in more permanently.

I guess I'm going with a semi, I think I will go back to blonde eventually but not for a long while I wanna grow out as much of the damage as possible.
I'm quite looking forward to having a "normal" hair color that wont clash with certain colors, red hair makes it very difficult to wear certain make-up and clothes.
I'll be using Wella Color Touch, which shade should I get and what developer would go with it?
Thank you for your help.

I've been on the Capital Hair & Beauty website and I can find the color touch shade 5/75 but can't find the 20 vol developer all I can see is a regular and intensive version that goes with the color touch, is one of them 20 vol?
