QuoteReplyTopic: Hearing breakage while combing my hair drives me CRAZY! Posted: June 09 2003 at 9:15pm
OK, I think I'm anti-hair-damage OBSESSED.
I rarely brush my hair, I usually just comb it once a day with a wide-tooth wooden comb.
But even when I'm being super gentle, I still hear and feel these light pulls. I figure they must be causing damage, because the sounds are caused by friction, and friction means damage.
Maybe I should do nothing but finger comb my hair from now on? Am I over-obsessed? Do I need to just chill and comb my hair like a normal person?

Actually, you are wise to "listen" to your hair talk while you comb it. (We maintain our cars in part by washing them, so why shouldn't we also maintain our hair in part by brushing it carefully? IMO this is not obsessive -- it is being thoughtful and careful of one's self). Anyway, slower combing helps. And if it snarls, use the fingers to detangle the snag... helps prevents damage. Hope this helps!
Hmmm. Maybe I'll try putting a little oil on my comb. Though to tell the truth, I usually don't comb it until I'm in the bathroom at work. My morning routine involves putting clothes on, grabbing my bags, grabbing a breakfast bar, and running out the door. :) I should probably get up 5 minutes earlier and comb my hair before I leave for work. :p
No matter what I do, I think it's impossible to not have ANY damage... Must stop trying to be a perfectionist!

try not to comb all of your hair at the same time. i comb my hair in the evening bind them loosely so i don`t have to comb them in the morning. my long, curly hair would be a mess after the night.. remember that it`s normal to loose up to 100 hairs in a day. also, if you have your hair up, you will notice this natural hairloss not until you open your hair to comb it.
