I am a granny with a mix of silver and dark hair and there is a section in front that is almost totally white also. I had thought  I would Love going gray, but this isn't working. This look only ages me and doesn't reflect my spirited self. I need help PLEASE, to go to a brunette with low lights. Any advice at all as to if I can do this on my own, once I get a nice new 'bob' style cut? Thanks to all for advice!

Go to killerstrands.com and read up on coloring gray hair.  You most definitely can do it yourself you just need good products and NOT box hair color or the "professional" colors at the beauty supply.  You can buy the good stuff online.  The website will tell you how.  You can also join the forum: go to Google groups then search killerstrands.  Be sure to read up on the blog BEFORE you pose a question to the group.  Good luck and congrats on wanting to stay young, fresh and modern.  Color is the way to go!!

Nothing wrong with professional colours and some boxed colour. I work with L'Oreal and wella, even Schwartzkopf for many years with excellent results. Also these mentioned companies have being going for many years, and have fantastic reviews and a professional and must add fantastic professional products.

Sorry but my experience hasn't been the same.  For year, I had nothing but dry, lackluster hair and the color would start to fade within a week.  This had nothing to do with the treatment my hair received, I hardly ever use heat and condition regularly. When I switched to the truly professional products, all of that changed.  I think there are a lot of others who've had the same positive experience when they changed from "box" kits and inferior "pro" products.

Having had a look at the website you mention often, I have noticed that the site has good reviews with Wella koleston, and also Wella colour touch. Wella is a "pro" product and one which I use on my clients. I am not disagreeing with you on good quality colours, but everyone has different experiences and great results from professional colours. Some people don't. Everyone has different hair types, not everyone is the same. I don't think its right that you totally dis "pro colours, through your own experience with them.

I found a site with tips for covering gray hair:  haircolorexperts.com.  If the "3 tips for covering gray hair" post is not on the homepage, then do a search for "gray hair'.  These are valuable tips and expand on the info I gave you.
