What are some foods and supplements I can take to ensure healthy, long hair? My hair is juuuust past my shoulders now. (Took a darn year to get it that long!!) I want it to at least grow to the top of my rib cage so I can do more with it. Is Hairtopia safe for 17 year olds to take? Also, is hair growth genetic? My mom had looong hair when she was my age and I'm wondering if my hair will grow that long now.
Try GNC Ultra Nourishair. I take Rexall(http://www.rexallvitamins.com) Hair Skin & Nails and some extra biotin (Spring Valley brand biotin- $1.40 at Wal-Mart, 1000 mcg/1 mg per tablet, 60 tablets in a bottle). Try to take at least 2 mg/2000 mcg of Biotin(I try to take at least 3 mg) a day. Other good things to look for: Silica(strength & shine), MSM(to help decrease shedding), and get lots of protein! Good foods to eat to help hair: Nuts, meats, eggs, whole grains, seafood, yogurt, brewers yeast, soy, green veggies, bananas, tomatoes, orange & yellow fruits & veggies.
The maximum hair growth length is probably genetic, although with all things genetic, it can also vary by the environment.
I like how you're questioning the safety of the pills, since they are supplements, and I'm not even sure if they are covered by the FDA. Also, excess of certain vitamins can be harmful to your health. Personally, I just take a multivitamin, and I watch what I eat. More meat and protein (ie soy) will definitely help.
