QuoteReplyTopic: My install- feedback needed! Posted: January 01 2010 at 1:54pm
Hi everyone,
I would like if any of you could give me some feedback on my install!
It is 20" of straight human hair, the colour is number 4.
My natural hair is a mix of number 4 and number 2 so some of the colour
matching is a bit off. I intend to buy some number 2 hair and mix it in.
I am having trouble with the blending- you can see the top layer of my
natural hair in the photos. I have the weft as high up as I can get it
without it showing all the time- it often does show a little at the
back as it is.
If anyone has any tips for improving it would be great.
PS the blonde highlights are just 1 single weft of hair I put in for fun- I don't normally wear them.

Hi there, I have to say I think your hair looks sooooooo pretty'. :)
(I really don't think anyone aside from 'us' girls would notice that top layer) really, perhaps just a light slicing of the razor along the back. I bet, too, a flat iron would completely blend in those top layers
*** can I ask which method u used to attach your wefts?
U look great!

I think this is a great first install. I can see how you would like to improve it a little bit.
When I look at your pics, I am thinking you might not have used enough hair, add one or two ounces more and see how this looks.
When you do so, work on your layering a little more.
Sherrie (from hairextensions101) had a great tutorial on this with pictures. Look for her old posts with the search feature.
Dharmatype is right that iron is always always a great helper to blend in everything. Especially the older the hair gets. It makes everything kind of flow together.
On the second pic, what I see is that you seem to have placed your rows mostly in the back. I recommend that you try adding a couple rows on the side. Start with one, see how it looks, then add another one if you think it's needed.
3 inches pieces will do the trick.
Also, are you using handtied wefts? They are great for the top row and the side pieces, because they lay so flat and are undetectable.
You could always get some bohyme handtied for the top row, I bet you could place the weft higher, and it would give your install a smoother more uniform finish.
I hope this helps!

Hey Girl- I'm definitely no expert, but I did get two of the best extension installs from a master. It seems to me that there are 2 secrets that could help you.
The easy 1 would be to just add more hair. The more hair you install the better it will dominate your own. This is easy with mirco-link methods, not sure how it would translate to tracks.
The second solution requires a bit more finness. When I went from an above the should length bob to waist length tresses my stylist installed a wide range of hair lengths. The extensions closest to the top were the same length as my own hair, that way it blended the extension color in with my own blond (blonds are difficult to match), then she added several more tiers of longer and longer hair below. I think I ended up with 3 or 4 layers in all. It looked completely real! I got compliments on my hair all the time and no one EVER asked if it was extensions. I think I had near 400 strands in.
Oh and 1 more secret. I would agree with frenchie that straigtening irons blend everything. But so do waves and curls! Even better in my opinion. I would french braid all that hair every night and when I undid it in the morning everything would be in waves. The wavyness really hid any discrepancies in length or color.
Well, all that is easy to say, and tricky to do. I'm going to be trying to do my own install soon! We'll see how it goes. Please post if you decide to make any changes.
Tip #1: Human hair is much lighter than synthetic and most color charts or swatches are for synthetic colors. Always get your human hair a bit darker than your own natural hair so it will match better. If you happen to get lighter hair, you can either lighten yours or put a darker rinse on the extensions.
Tip #2: If you use different colors, the lighter tones will always go on top/crown area or blended thoroughly. If you have a dark crown only, it will not look natural.
Tip #3: If you have much shorter hair than the extensions, you should gradually add the length in layers (like LostGirl mentioned). It looks much more natural and flows better than having a 12" crown with a 24" nape.
Tip #4: Don't be afraid of color!!! If you got hair that is too light, get more that is darker and blend the 3 colors together for low-lights and hi-lights. Then, it will not be too obvious which is yours and which isn't.
Tip #5: If you need to use extensions closer to the crown and do not want your tracks to show, you should consider skin weft extensions at the crown only. This will give you an invisible weft.
