Hi,

I have always had stick straight hair -- and always wanted, of course, curly hair.

How many of you have had perms? Did it damage your hair too much? Are you happy with the results? What is the best perm these days?

I probably haven't had a perm in 18 years! Wow - since high school. Anyway -- my hair is blond shoulder length and very straight.

thanks for the suggestions.

I've had a perm. But I was 12 or 13 I believe so I didn't put the right stuff in it to make it look decent.

I'm a big believer in keeping your hair the texture it is naturally. It'll be a lot less work on you and keep your hair healthy. I bet you just need to find the right cut that'll work for your hair and face/body shape. Ever tried highlights?

Of course you could still get the perm. I have a friend who's had one for a long time and nobody ever guessed she didn't have naturally curly hair.

thanks for the response

I have had highlights - a long time ago. I just get so tired of my boring stringy straight hair sometimes. All I seem to do is wash it and put it in a pony tail - boring!

I had a spiral done about three times. NO big deal but I stop because my hair ended up weighing too much and it ended up being a wasted money.

I love perms because they add lift to my lifeless hair. I've been getting them for a long time, and I get more compliments on my hair than anything else.

My experience has shown that Redken Vector perms are what is right for my hair. I think it's different for everyone, though. But Redken has always come through, and I won't get any other kind.

I permed my hair before school started (end of August) and it dried my hair really bad, and my hair wasn't at all bad before so I say don't go for it and if you want to curly/wavy llok they have foamy curlers you could put your hiar in over night and if you dont like doing it like that there is scrunching spary or you can use mouse and just scrunch your hair as it dries....

I agree. Perms can be iffy. Especially if your hair is already not in great shape. At any rate, proceed with caution.
