Overall, very nice.   Extensions were much in evidence, with Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride definitely having gone that route to get back to their former length.  I'd bet that more than few of the long-haired gals also used them to get the volume and fullness for those long, curly styles.  No one has that much hair!  But it's nice to watch an awards show without extreme styles everywhere.

Noteworthy:

Reba McEntire--still on the grow, which is OK, but she can't seem to find a style that works.   I wasn't wild about the curled back from the face layered look she had last night.  But yes, honey, you did look great in that dress in the opening routine, notwithstanding, as you put it, a pushup bra and more special effects than "Avatar"!

Whitney Duncan:  Below mid-back blonde hair in long casual waves--very nice .

Carrie Underwood:  With the extensions, she's back to her trademark long loose curled look, usually with some of the top layers loosely pulled back. Stunning as usual.

Martina McBride:  Also back to her former length and looking great in a casual curly style.

Miranda Lambert:  She's kept pretty much the same length and the casual curly look--works well for her.  She had it pinned up for a shorter look on the red carpet--the jury is out on the shorter look IMO.   But it's not out on the red carpet dress--a definite wow.

Faith Hill--she's done it again.  It was a bit of a shock to see Ms. Hill with the most extreme style of the evening (at least of those that I saw on screen). The stick straight, center-parted, very choppy layers, chin length to slighly below her shoulders, did absolutely nothing for me.  At least she didn't go with the overbleached look this time.

Julianne Hough--another miss.   The straight, pouffed, pulled back look just wasn't her best.

Hillary of Lady Antebellum looked great--  dark hair worn in  another long curly look.

Taylor Swift  went both up and down.  Her blonde curls look a little darker, almost brown in the updo.  I liked both  looks but am not a big fan of the thrash dancing routine, where she repeatedly flips her hair forward over her head  (or the gimmicky  flying trapeze, for that matter).

LeAnn Rimes--too blonde and stick straight.

Nicole Kidman--staying with the dark red, long, stick straight look, and kind of messy to boot.  I vote no.

Rory of Rory and Joey-- her long hair was a little too straight and unkempt on the red carpet but she  must have styled it before her performance--brunette curls looked great.

Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland--updo was a little messy for an awards show.

Gloriana's female members  both have long hair, even by country standards,  and wore it down with the front pulled back.  Rachel Reinert looked great,  but Cheyenne Kimball had hers too flat and needed a root touchup in the worst way.

Laura Bell Bundy-- a Miranda Lambert/Carrie Underwood look alike, which is fine.   The roots in the center part aren't.

Cher--she was a presenter, in case you're wondering.  Long casual curls & looking great.  And speaking of special effects. . . .

Lots of photos on cmt.com.

As I think I mentioned previously, I don't understand why Carrie or Martina chopped their hair in the first place. Martina's hair had never looked better. Faith Hill is a style chameleon who, when choosing short styles, tends to pick horrendous 'dos. I think that she'd look good with a more standard short cut, but her long hair at the inception of her stardom was superlative. Star Bob

Faith Hill looked great with short hair in the video to "This Kiss".
