I was trying to grow my hair, but that's out now. My hair has been left just above shoulder length, but the top layer is like only 3 inches long. It kind of looks like a mullet, I suppose. Really fat up top but thin below. I have quite a square jaw so this is NOT flattering. I know I should have asked her to change it, but really I just wanted to cry so I had to get out of there. Also, I really didn't want to trust her with my hair further.

I dunno what to do, I could get it cut into a really short bob but the top layers (which sit about an inch above my ear..) aren't moving. I don't think a really short hair cut with suit me, cos of my jaw. I wish I could post a pic but my phone is playing up, and I don't have a camera. :(

Hey there! Do you know what you can do for a quick fix until your hair grows out? Use hair extensions! Either clip in ones or get the real good kind that you can glue or attach to your hair.

It'll add length instantly until your hair grows out :)

Pinecone, I'm very sorry. My wife has not set foot in a salon for nearly a decade b/c of her own and others' unwanted shearings. *I* trim her long hair straight across her waist now.
The good news is that layers do blend over time, even badly cut ones. So, hang in there. Consider this a setback, not a defeat. It really is up to you now to attain the hair about which you dream. Cordially, Bob Wink

Pinecone,
You are not the first, nor will you be the last. Less than 2% of "professional" beauty school graduates remain in the field after 3 years. They do not "get" that they are in a customer service career field. Have your boyfriend/husband learn to trim your mane. In less than 2 years, he will have far more  "experience" with a happy client  than the "pros" who move onto to their second career and ask you if you want friends with your order.
