I was cleaning out my place for the family garage sale (God save us, what stress) and I found some pictures from when I was about 16. These pix demonstrate the sheer power of straightening gel, a flat brush and a blow dryer!
you look so pretty! your hair looks like mine in the wavy pic. is that when you let it air dry? it's really not bad i don't think. i like the straight one alittle better. also on me as well. isn't amazing how different we can look with straight hair?
Wow, you get your hair straight too then--I didn't realize it was as wavy as mine. In the natural photo I didn't style it at all. When it gets that long again (about 8 months from now) I'll try wearing it wavy but with some silicone spray and gel to better define and defrizz.
But I too love having the silky straight hair. It feels so glamorous. I am really looking forward to achieving that length, even though I realize it will make me look like a high schooler again. As long as I don't pull out the varsity jacket and glitter tee shirts I think my coworkers will still treat me as an adult.

yes my mother's fault. she past down her wavy hair to me. darn her! LOL! i blow dry it too to get it straight. i also feel glamorous when it's straight. i let it dry on it's on most of the time. that way it won't damage my hair. plus it takes a long time!
Hi Lyris, you are very pretty and your hair is just gorgeous. I think in a way, you are lucky to be able to wear your hair wavy or straight. You look good either way.
Overall, the straight hair pic is a better picture of you, but I like your hair best wavy. This is probably because my hair is naturally pretty straight, so I prefer wavy hair. Which of course is why you and Monica like it better straight.

Agreed, the wavy photo makes me look like a work camp survivor....I believe it was taken after three days of no makeup and no hairbrushes at my lakeside cottage in the middle of Nowhere, Mich. Definitely not going to win photo of the year! :-P

It's right at shoulder length, which would put me four inches (eight months) from my goal of the length in the straight hair picture. In high school and the first part of college I had long to very long hair, usually well past BSL. I dyed my hair crossing guard orange (not by design) two years ago or so and had to grow out the damage and awful color (which faded, thankfully.) I cut it to above the shoulders and kept it that way as the damage grew out.
Now that's it mostly back to normal, I've been letting it grow since March and it's on the way out. While there are advantages to my present length (it makes me look somewhat older/professional, takes less time to dry) I still picture my truest self with long hair. I've been a long-haired gal only in spirit for the past two years, and it's time to make that a reality again!

in my own opinion i think it was smart of you not to let it grow until the damage was gone. again i've posted this many times. sorry to say this over and over. i had a messed up layer experince. i kept cutting my length so it could all catch up. it seemed like FOREVER! i knew i would have to cut it sooner or later to be one length. i figured instead of letting it get long i would keep cutting so it wouldn't be really long that i would have to cut all the length out. it would of been to drastic for me. it's not like it was super short. it was always bra length. it just seemed it was ALWAYS that length. dos that make any sense?

So excited that you are going to grow your hair, Lyris .
I wish you every success in your hair goals and am looking forward to seeing your transition from a medium haired beautiful-cosmeceutical-expert to a long haired beautiful-cosmeceutical-expert.
Thanks Caramia (that's a beautiful name.) I use Tresemme European Slick Melting gel, but unfortunately it's been discontinued and I'm running out :-( Since then I've experimented with Biotera gel, Herbal Essences Natural Volume, LA Looks Frizz Control gel and Infusium gel (the one in the small tube, forgot the name.) The last three are identical products in composition: only price and packaging are different. My hair, as you can see, straightens out pretty well and my waves aren't very stubborn. The Tresemme gel was great because it smoothed away my frizz more than it straightened. I've used heavier-duty balms in the past but they left me greasy and rather limp. What have you tried? I'm always looking for more toys :-)

I haven't tried anything as far as straightening products. I'm a newbie to all of this. I don't even have hair long enough to straighten right now but my goal is to grow it long and healthy (emphasis on the healthy). I've started using the Redken So Soft shampoo that you and others on this board have recommended. I have stopped blow drying and stopped using the curling iron. My 6-year old daughter has hair all the way down to her waist and it is wavy like mine. Sometimes it's nice for a change to wear it differently. So I was interested in the straightening gel. I will look for the products you mentioned and try them on her sometime. Also, thanks again for the ingredient list you sent me. I had some time alone (Yay!) in KMart one day and had your list in hand as I shampoo shopped (what fun! - it's the simple pleasures in life...). Thanks again.
