I thought I'd post this here, because those with long hair are most likely to understand what I'm talking about. I have a pet parakeet who is incredibly friendly and loves to be played with. The only problem is, his favorite plaything is hair. About 5 years ago, he got so horribly tangled in my hair he had to be cut out. He loves to play in my b/f's hair, which isn't even that long, and also the very curly hair of another friend of mine. I'm not asking how to prevent tangling, since that's simple, I'm just asking if any one has similar experiences with birds. I've had pet birds all my life, and know that this is affectionate behavior, still it's unsettling when they pull or bite, especially with larger birds.
Did you see the thread Dave started a couple of weeks back about pets and hair? I didn't see anything about birds, but there are some cute anecdotes about cats and dogs! I learned something, didn't know that's how birds show affection! As a cat owner, I don't think I'll be getting first-hand experience with birds. They're tormented enough by the birds outside.

I used to know a long-haired woman who liked to let her pet bird play in her hair.
Several years ago I wrote on the Bloopers board about a woman who approached me on the street seeking help removing bird do that landed on her head as she walked down the street. Fortunately I was able to help her as I had on me an unused tissue and was able to remove it well enough that there were no visible traces of it remaining. (surely she washed her hair as soon as she got home).
Part of my job requires that I inspect docks to make sure they are not going to be placed anywhere that might ruin seagrass beds. Well one day i went out with two coworkers to inspect a dock. In the yard there was a large black labradore...very friendly. No one was home so we decided to go around the back becasue the fence didnt surround the entire yard. We inspected the dock then came back. Somehow the dog jumped the fence.
Typicaly when Im in the feild i keep my hair braided or up. Today i had decided to leave it down since it was still wet from being washed that morning (normaly i shower at night). As i steped off the dock onto the nice St. Augustine grass lawn my ankle twisted and I crumpled to the ground. My thighlenght hair gracefuly flew over my back and onto the ground while my nose was in the grass. the escape dog decided i was playign and started biteing my hair and jumping on it so i couldnt get up.
One coworker distrated the dog while the other helped me up (my ankle ended up being badly hurt). It was a scene and my hair was grassy and slobbery...yuk!

My ankle is better now, but it still aches. two months after it happened I started walking again and thought i must be horribly out of shape because my feet were hurting untill I realized it was only one foot and it was not my foot just my ankle. My ankle still hurts when I walk for a lenght of time but I can dance just fine.
