QuoteReplyTopic: First time bleaching (of course it looks bad) Posted: May 31 2011 at 5:27pm
Hello, everyone at Hair Boutique. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind and patient enough to give me their honest opinions.
I was a dyed redhead, deep red, really. And it's been over a month and it faded to, I'd say a reddish brown, maybe a level 6-5? Well, of course I get the idea that I want to go platinum, and I've been reading all sorts of forums, and watching all sorts of videos of people who did it themselves with Sally products and were wonderfully successful, although it was admittedly a process.
I went to salons I never got what I wanted, and I was always sucking my wallet dry over it. So finally, I felt ambitious enough to it myself. I figure, heck, if it looks too ridiculous I can either wait it through or dye over it.
So I got me the tub of violet Kaleidocolors bleach, 30 volume L'Oreal developer (they didn't have the Pure White that was made by the same brand as the bleach), and even got whatever shampoo/conditioner toners as well as Virgin Snow by Manic Manic once I was light enough and ready to tone.
And I was aware that this wouldn't be instant. I followed the instructions on the tub, which said to mix with 20 developer and heat for 10 minutes. I figured 30 vol wouldn't make too much of a difference, but I didn't leave it on longer than the 10 minutes (did I even leave it in long enough, or over-thought it and washed it out too soon?). And sure enough, it came out the typical white at scalp, butter yellow roots, orange body, dark orange tips. I did this last night, mind you. Afterward, I doused it in conditioners and protein reconstructors.
And today my hair, while noticeably a tad dry, is still pretty manageable. I can comb through it no problem, and it really isn't more damaged than before with the red dyes done to it and what-not. I suppose my question to you guys is, I'm really impatient, regardless of what I consented to before I began this whole project. With the way my hair is right now, would it be relatively safe to bleach it again in 24 hours, a day or two after the first session? Would toning it down with a 20 vol developer as oppose to 30 help any? Should I leave the bleach in longer second time around? Is there any hope for me at all?! Haha.
Thanks for any help, guys. It's much appreciated.

well the longer you can wait the better. But many hairdressers bleach hair 2 times in a row or the day after. It all depends on the condition of the hair.
But next time use foils to ensure that you only apply bleach to the darker parts and try not to overlap onto the root area.
20 vol is less damaging to the hair, but 30 is pretty safe for use on the scalp also. But making hair color corrections to platinum is hard even for colorists. Another option would be to settle for a dark blonde base and gradually make foil highlights untill most of the hair is blonde
