I've tried so many things and nothing works. I can't get to a hairdresser for awhile but I can't take it anymore. I need something that will keep it from breaking now. I've tried olive oil ( didn't come out for days), different conditioners and shampoos (probably not very good ones, cheap ones), leave in conditioners. What can I do now? anything I can make at home to help? anything? I'm desperate. Thanks.

well I wash it with either john frieda blonde shampoo or suave clarifying shampoo. Then I use physique deep hydrating conditioner. After I get out of the shower I spray on infusium 23 leave in conditioner for damaged dry hair. That's about it. I'm pretty sure it's breaking off from being chemically damaged cuz I highlight it and stuff but I don't know. I hardly blow dryed it or used anything like that on my hair this summer and that's when it started breaking off and now it's really gotten bad. I can hardly touch my hair without some coming out. My hair is thick wavy and a few inches past my shoulders so at least it's not thin.

Sounds okay so far,.. but the all-important question: Do you have fine hair strands? Coloring can be many times as damaging to a finehair than to a coarsehair or medium.

I'd also be interested in some answers on this topic. I try to be really careful with my hair. I have all these little "baby hairs" around my hair line...I'm not sure what I need to do so that it won't break off anymore and I can actually grow to be thick like it used to be. PLEASE HELP!

Both the Physique conditioner and Infusium 23 have loads of silicones in them, and these are probably building up on your hair. Even if you use a clarifying conditioner, they may eventually build up and cause breakage, as harsh shampoos cause the hair to be stripped, and the silicones bind more tightly.

I suggest you clarify at least weekly by rinsing your dry hair with 1/2 cup vinegar mixed in warm water before washing. I also suggest that you get a moisturizing conditioner that does not contain silicones (which generally end in -cone on the ingredients list). Silicones put a glaze on the surface of the hair and provide slip, but don't actually do moisturizing.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

I would like to add that if you do the vinegar rinse suggested above (which is excellent for hair), you may want to stop using the clarifying shampoo. The clarifying one will dry your hair out to some extent (which is good, because it helps remove buildup, but you don't want double doses of moisture removal). You may want to also do an intense conditioning after you do the vinegar rinse. You can put mayonnaise on your hair and leave it on for an hour, and it has EXCELLENT moisturizing capabilities. Don't use low-fat mayo, or miracle whip, you want the regular fatty kind. Then you would rinse it out and shampoo and condition as normal.

Olive oil isn't that good for hair, try jojoba or coconut oil, or shea butter. One drop goes a long way. Two drops is usually enough for the last 4 inches of my hair.
