Color gloss over highlights??

I have blonde highlights but I want to use a demi-permanent red this winter that will wash out. Will a gloss permanently stain my blonde?

Also, my hair is dry, coarse and curly and I have split ends. I read that a gloss can come out uneven under these conditions but I don't want to cut my ends yet because my curly hair will turn into a big puff if I lose any more length.
