QuoteReplyTopic: French roll/twist?? Posted: November 23 2004 at 7:53am
I've been told (by a certain someone at my hair salon- not my stylist) that wearing a french roll is hopelessly outdated. She says that only little old ladies wear them. I'm 27 and I like to wear them because it's convienient and i don't have to do much with upkeep. But then again, i see very few people my age with this style. What do you all think when and if you do see a younger person with a french twist?

We'll be seeing more of them when we all learn how to do it! LOL :) It's hard for some people!! Especially with certain hair types, e.g. mine, that is too heavy and slick to stay in a French twist. I usually think, "oh.. PRETTY and ELEGANT!" and then I follow up with,"gosh darnit, they have EASY hair"

I think a well done French twist is very elegant and a real classic.
The easiest way to do a French twist is:
-Work a good anti-frizz gel through wet hair. -Blow dry. -Gather hair into a low pony tale at nape of neck. -Twist hair and lift as you continue to twist hair. -Tuck in the top section of twist so that it is neat. -Pin along the length of roll to secure.
Here are some web sites with step-by-step photos and instructions.
I LOVE the french twist! I wear it frequently and it took a heck of a lot of practice to be able to do it at all. I agree that's why we don't more often see it on people.
I found the easiest way to do it is with the ponytail like mentioned above to hold in the flyaways, then once its all twisted and tucked in, slapping a claw clip on it. If you use a jewelled clip, it looks super fancy, and if you use a plain plastic one, it looks nice, but casual. Concord clips hold it great too, if you put one to just pinch the fold down to the hair in the back, but I find they bend up my hair permanently.
