QuoteReplyTopic: i want 2 curl my hair and have it stay help please!! Posted: January 23 2005 at 1:27pm
Ok i have a bug dance coming up and i want 2 look good, its not prom. Last dance i had my friends curl my hair and it worked and looked good but it fell really bad. I am italian so i have thick long half wavy/curly hair. I notice that my hair curls less if my hair is the littlest bit greasy meaning by the end of the day if i washed my hair the previous night or that morning it won''t curl as good. I really want my hair to stay sumwhat curly. If anyone has ideas or tips thad be great. O and i hav only used a curling iron on my hair, one that gets really hot. I have found that rollers or w/e don''t work. Ok thanx!

This takes a little effort, but I can tell you it works fantastic and the curls will stay ... I do this when I really want my set to hold! First, set your hair on perm rods (at least this is what I always use). This takes a while needless to say, and you might need someone to help you if you don't do a lot of setting. Doesn't matter if you use end papers, oh, and you want your hair dry when you do this. I put some product in my hair, some kind of medium hold gel, but I try to stay away from anything that is really sticky. Once you are all rolled up, put a pan on a stove burner full of water and let it come to a boil. You're going to use this to steam your curls. It doesn't take long only about 5 minutes. Once it comes to a boil, hold your head/rollers over it, slowly rolling you head back and forth to make sure all of your head is getting "steamed". Also, you might want to wrap a headband around your ears - other than that, the steam really doesn't get that hot. After about 5 minutes (it has never taken longer than this for me and I have really thick coarse hair) you can just let your set cool for a about 15 minutes. Once you've cooled off take out the rods. They will be TIGHT, but now use some humectant pomade and start running it through the curls and gently pull them apart and just arrange with your fingers. If you pull through a curl and it gets to frizzy, just twist the hair in a spiral motion and it will come back together again.
I know this sounds a little unusual, but it really works! I've done it many times and LOVE the curls I get. Let me know if it works for you.
I do something a little similar. Curls don't stay in my hair either, and even perms fall out after the first wash. After I wash my hair, I put some setting lotion in it to help it hold, or gel, then I roll it up on those foam curlers and let them stay in until its completely dry. Which usually takes overnight and half the next day (which means I stay home before the party). After you sleep on them all night you can use the blow dryer the next day if you get sick of waiting.

Perm rods work really well as do bendy rods which are a lot more comfortable to have in. When your hair is wound in dry off (under a soft hood dryer) for about 30 mins allow to cool right off and remove the rods. Tease out the curls and hold with spray.
Semi/Temporary curl, wave and colour creator: please try before any perm!
