how to get rid of goldwell orange /red tone

HI All,

My natural hair color is a medium golden brown. In a goldwell level, I am  between a 6 or 7. I have tried 6n, 6g and 6b and always get a red tone with 20v. Last time I tried, 6n with 6sb and I cut the red but have a slight orange tone.

Am I better off cutting the volume down to 10?
I am going to use level 7 next time.

The color I am trying to achieve is either 6bg or a 7bg which is very close to my natural hair color.

Thanks for any help with cutting the unwanted red/orange tone.
