I love hummus, but it can get expensive if you buy it at the store. My grandmother taught me this recipe:
Ingredients - 2 cans drained, rinsed chickpeas (you can use raw chickpeas but be sure to soak them and follow directions to prepare) -tahini sauce -cumin -olive oil -salt -optional water Dipping items of your choice such as: -pita bread, chips, crackers, baby carrots or raw veggies
Combine 2 cans of drained, rinsed chickpeas or the equivalent of fresh chickpeas with 2/3 cup of tahini and 1/2 teaspoon of cumin in a blender or food processor.
Blend well. Slowly drizzle in 1/4 cup or olive oil and blend.
If mixture is too thick, add water to reach desired consistency. Add salt to taste.
Scoop hummus into a bowl and pour a tiny bit of olive oil on top to form a small pool of the oil. Add a dash of cumin to the oil Serve with pita bread or pita chips, crackers, baby carrots or raw veggies.
This will last in the refrigerator for up to 2 days if covered properly. It's also a very healthy meal. You can use as an appetizer or a mini-meal.
I would love to hear your hummus recipes if you have one to share.
