I've heard this a lot. About 4 months ago, i had long wavy hair and i would flat iron it almost every day. Well i decided to get it straightened and it stayed straightened those 4 months.

I'm thinking of doing it again because i'm starting to flat ironing it again and i don't like doing that.

But why do people say it's bad?

Any sort of thermal or chemical straightening warps your hair's natural textire. It breaks bonds to make your hair lie flat. Therefore, your hair is weaker than it should normally be. It's not 'bad' per se, but expect some level of eventual damage.
Make every day you have count, before the time comes for you to count every day you have.

I have a question about this too! I have extremely curly hair, and I'm thinking of straightening it. But my hair is frizzy too. Will straightening it tame the frizz? How effective are chemical straighteners? I'm including a picture of myself below. I'm the girl! Would you expect straightening to be effective and actually look good on me with my hair type? Is this the kind of thing that will gradually wear off, or just grow out?

If they only put straightener on your roots you should be okay if they do exactly what they did the last time.

erinspice, your hair is gorgeous! I wouldn't touch it with chemicals if I were you!

If you have a frizz problem on occasion (you definitely don't in this picture), you can always use a little jojoba oil (very little) to bring out the shine and reduce the frizz.

No when they did my hair, they were spreading a bunch of white stuff on it and they were coming it back.

Then they washed it off, and added some other stuff on it and let it stay there for like 5 minutes.

Then they rinsed that off and i was done.

They were actually trying not too put the stuff too close to the roots.

Chemical straighteners[guanidine hydroxide, and ammonium thioglycate[permanent wave or straightener] can cause a form of damage called [acquired] distal trichorrhexis nodosa in which the hair has white dots, thinning ends, and split ends. Chemical straighteners get rid of the frizz.Guanidine carbonate[a chemical straightener] isn't applied close to scalp because it causes chemical bend which happens when a chemical straightener is applied close to scalp which causes the hair near the scalp to be bent. If guanidine carbonate is applied to the scalp the heat from the scalp can cause the perm to overprocess which can cause split ends. Please press search and read my posts.
