QuoteReplyTopic: Red/Brown to REALLY red/teal...? Posted: February 16 2013 at 12:43pm
I have naturally brown hair and have been slowly dying it redder and redder over the past year. My hair does not take very well to color on the bottom, but I just got my hair layered and it took care of the darker "tips." I now want to bleach my hair and dye it back with a nice bright red, which should be fine, but I also wanted to put peek-a-boos of teal in there... Both colors are by Ion and the lady at Sally Beauty said that the bleach she sold me should really bleach my hair, but what should I look out for when bleaching it? And how will I know if the bleached color is an okay color to dye teal? I know that I can't put teal over it if it gets like orange, but should I REALLY bleach the parts that I want teal and just do regular on the parts I want red? Need some advice :)

For really bright red hair you need to prelighten the hair to orange, otherwise the dark pigments in the hair will unable the red color
to pop, it will become a more subtle dark red color.
So prelighten the hair to orange or brass (in the red coloring scenario brass is actually a good thing) and then tone.
And keep in mind that for refreshing the ends and midshaft when you have achieved the color you want. Always use a demi permanent color, the more porous the hair becomes the faster the color will fade.
