hi i am new to this site but i am sooo grateful i found it!! i just moved to arizona from monterey ca(very humid to very very dry) and in the process of finding a new stylist my hair got ruined!!! it is relatively long(small of the back) and the stylist used the wrong color..then tried to fix it...long story short..my hair is like STRAW!!! what can i do to make it soft and full without tangles again? it is naturally straight and normally golden blonde..also, is there a trick to finding a new stylist? i have had the same one for years!!! i'm petrified to ever go to one again, it seems they are all out to chop it off! i try to explain that i have always had long hair and that will NEVER change but they always want to cut too much!@!#@^^&$# i am grateful for any advice!!

Hmm... normally golden blonde, and you want to dye it? (puzzled look on face). It's okay
I (we) hear you on your frustration with stylists who cut too much. There seem to be many people (non-stylists, and not long-haired) who don't seem to sympathize.
Regarding your query... my suggestion would be to use a deep conditioner when you wash your hair (maybe even before), and use jojoba oil when it has dried. Apply sparingly, so as not to make it greasy or lank, but enough so that it isn't "crispy." Let us know what you try, and how well it works.
EEEECCKKK!!! What are they really thinking!!! I´M SO SORRY TO HEAR ALL THIS!!! Don´t give up your hair- you´ll just be miserable... I know. It sounds to me the proteins in your hair are broken completely... and the bad news is there´s no way to ´glue`them back.
You probably will need to cut a little...but don´t over-react. Cutting long hair in a salon is risky! Cutting long damaged hair in salon has failure written all over it... These people are ruthless!
Cutting long hair is very tricky to do, especially by yourself. Maby you could ask a friend, bf. or so to help..? Comb hair straight and then followed by SHARP hair-cutting scissors even out the hairline. Take just a little- you can alvays take more but you can´t put back! If you can´t use anybody´s help try Feye´s method ( somewhere there´s site on internet, try with Google under trimming hair yourself or...) What ever you do- if you hear the word layers: RUN, RUN FAST AND FAR AND DON´T LOOK BACK! Layering damaged hair is the ultimate thinning procedure... And if you decide to trim a little bit more...as long as you are happy with your desision...fine.
And then condition, condition, condition! What your hair now needs is moisture so use deep treatments to your hair, condition twise if you need to (at this point you can´t over- condition) and then use leave-in condition. Don´t use ANY heating/styling equipment whatsoever, don´t use Velcro-rollers, don´t use hairclips that pull hair or have metal- parts. Purchase a good guality wooden combs and natural boar-bristle brush... Don´t over- brush, don´t tease (back-combing), don´t use any styling products... And when you wear your hair in the back change the point where your bun/twist/whatever is sitting...
Buy/do a SILK pillowcase. There are a lot of talking going on on the boards about pillowcases. The truth is "satin" is a weft, "silk" is a material. So when choosing pillowcases choose SILK pillowcase in SATIN weft. Now here´s the confusion... most pillowcases in the market are POLYESTER which is a very in-expensive material to use, very artificial( made of liquid plastic) synthetick fibre and are marketed as SATIN ( true this might be, but stay away from them). Instead, go for silk! If you don´t have that much money to use, try to find if there is any "cupro" material available. This is a very fine fabrick, natural ("fused" from tree) and almost as fine in constuction as silk...it´s used as the lining for silk. If these salespeople try to lure you into ANYTHING ELSE satiny lining material- WALK AWAY! They´re there to sell, you have a mission with your hair.
Hmmm...let me think some more (I have to go for lunch) Ill get back to you when I come back.
Don´t you worry, girlfriend! We´ll fix your hair somehow!
Ta-daa. I´m back. I seem to have forgotten one word; BIRK-TREE...the source you get cupro from.
A bout washing; Don´t over-wash your hair. Just 2-3 times a week should do. And use a condition-shampoo-condition method...or better yet deep treat, shampoo, deep treat.
Just learn to live with the new you...you can´t restore your hair (so sorry!) but you can chance the way it feels&looks!
I´m very buzy these days but do read what you guys write if not always be able to answer/participate.
I hope you´ll be fine with your hair an keep us posted!!!

THANK YOU!!!! it looks like I have lots to do, but lets face it...long hair is worth the trouble~ I'm compulsive about taking care of it, luckily it is very thick and strong so hopefully it will recuperate!!it is so nice to know that others understand my obsession!!!!
