Am I the only person who notices hair lenghts in movies? Okay, I always notice characters with long flowing hair. But most of the time these actors use extentions. In some movies the hair styles will change around a couple times and I have notice some significant hair lenght issues. The ponytail or braid scene for example would bee much longer than what the lenght hair as seen out and loose would braid up into.

Two recent movies: now correct me if im terribly off:

Extrodinary gentlemen: in it the vamp chick has gorgeous long chestnut hair. But in one scene its straight and a bit shorter than in the scene where its curled. Also in a later scene she has very very curly hair and then suddenly it goes straight. What?! Im confused? did they mean to do that?

Now Ive not seen the new Lara Croft movie but ive seen the trailor and commercials. Her hair is very long when its braided but its much shorter in just a ponytail...that doesnt sit right.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is full of beautiful hair...almost all of it fake.

Still...it's inspirational and may have inspired many people to either re-consider the long hair option or to grow longer than they would have otherwise.

Helena Bonham-Carter in "Room with a View" had gorgeous long chocolate locks.

And both Antonio Banderas and Brad Pitt had (fake) long hair in "Interview with the Vampire".

Aaah, I do the same, Erinlynn.

Then it always jolts my eyes when I see the actresses doing promos for the film, or appearing on Leno, or what-have-you and their hair is short!

Wigs... sigh.

I hope you'll welcome the intrusion from the heathen. You guys love your long hair and take good care of it. Some people, notably actresses, wear extensions. For movies, it makes sense. If the character is supposed to have a certain hairstyle, e.g. Lara Croft, and the actress doesn't, they have to do something. Even outside of the film, they often wear extensions. While I don't know anyone who does, I'm sure a some women do.

I don't have a problem with it. To me, it's like fake nails, fake eyelashes, fake breasts, or even tattoos and clothing. If you want to look a certain way, then do it. If it looks seriously phony, it's not attractive, but if it doesn't then why not? Hair is a fashion accessory. Is that heretical?

Extensions don't bother me. In fact, it gives me a kind of thrill to know that millionaire actresses have to fake what I have for real! Yeah!

Heh, that's funny, Elissa. So true.

Extensions and wigs don't bother me at all, Rod. I just mean I watch a movie like Ever After, and I sit there for 2 hours and enjoy Drew Barrymore's beautiful hair... and then I turn off the VCR and there is Drew on Leno with short hair. aaah! Jolts my eyes. But Drew is easy on the eyes no matter how she looks. :)

I know, Ever After is an old movie. But when it was new, you could have seen it in the theater and then gone home and seen her on TV. You know what I mean. :)

SG - You shoud see Drew now....she has at least a foot and a half of blonde tacked on. It lookes great on her. Very "pre-raphaelite". I wonder how long she will go with this look?

I notice hair in just about anything (movies, magazines, in public) before anything else. Public seems to be the most fun becasue you can see how real people wear their hair. It is difficult(for me anyway) to try and have hair like the stars.

Okay, let me clear up what I ment. I dont mind wigs and extentions on actors/resses. I just want them to keep the hairlenght of the character consistant.

I dont like seeing the heroine with just below mid back lenght hair in one scene and then with a waistlenght braid in the next scene. It doesnt make sence to my eyes.

Maybe its just because I pay attention to hair that I see these things. Or for example I see a character with waist lenght straight hair in one scene who has it curled in a later scene. I dont mind the curls. She just styled it. But suddenly her curly hair is slightly past her waist.

Really Ive seen this in many movies. The hair lenghts dont match.

Its especialy apparent in ponytail vs down styles. The ponytail is often longer than the down style.

As for Drew Barrymore. I loved her in Ever After and as far as I remember I didnt have any problems with the hair consistancy in that movie.

Over all though Im not a big fan of her. Shes got a couple roles Ive liked her in but the others she seems to just be playing the same part.

Like Julia Roberts. She always acts the same part just with a different story. But thats my opinion.

Actors & actresses hair is often under very harsh treatments. Many times they have to cut, grow, dye, highlight, dye again not to mention daily styling (it might look like care free but the matter of fact is it´s helmet head we´re talking about)
so growing hair often is a complete impossibility!
I´ve done some styling for a few shoots and it´s not an easy life for their follicles...
And what comes to extensions
At the beginning of this year I gave myself extentions... natural remi hair. That was very nice and put me back to track growing my hair. (I cut it short about a year ago).
I took them off after couple of months so I could give better treatments to my hair since I want a healthy hair.
Long healthy hair.
I understand completely if someone is annoyed of chancing hair-lengths of others,
I´m not bothered.
Sometimes I use clip- ons or create do´s from them or add some whatever to my hair to give it a go.
So it´s not uncommon to see me one day with waist-lenght hair (and yes it´s mine-I bought it!)
and the next with shoulder-lenght hair...
At the moment it´s like I´m living in hell so why not have fun when you can!
