Well, the earliest known version of the story of Rapunzel is the Neapolitan tale of Petrosinella.
Petrosinella's mother craved parsley while prognant and Petrosinella ate parsely to make her locks grow super long (with the help of a little magic no doubt).
200 years later, the Grimm Brothers replaced parsley with rampion (garlic leaves).
Much later, we have Donna Jo Napoli's Zel, force-fed sandwiches stuffed with round-leaved lettuce (corn salad).
Perhaps I shall eat quantities of parsley for the next year and corn salad the year after and see if I get super-growth...? Hmmm...as for rampion, I shall have to grow it myself as it is not available in the market.
So, do you think there's any truth in the tales?

Do I believe there is any truth in the tales? In short (am I allowed to say that here? ), yes, I do believe it. Some of us (me included) pop pills to get those vital nutrients, vitamins, minerals and "herbs" to make up for a diet deficient in "real" food.
Of course, the story could be amended to fit commercial purposes. Next iteration you see might, for example, promote the virtues of Subway (TM) sandwiches for healthy, long, Rapunzelesque hair. (disclaimer: I have nothing to gain or lose by the fortunes of said sandwich shoppe, except perhaps the occasional workday lunch spot ).
Some of the super long haired women like DYQ eat lots of walnuts… I think the have a lot of the “very good” fat. Guess some sort of foods can do good for your hair?! Now where are my walnuts??
