My hair is at its happiest when I let it soak overnight in jojoba oil, and then wash it the next morning with a gentle shampoo, repeat the shampoo to clear out all that oil, then finish with Redken Active Express Split Second conditioner.

I love that conditioner. I think it's even better than All-Soft. Dare I say?

Ohhhh...you are REALLY not going to want to hear this...but the reason Active Express dries fast is because it contains denatured alcohol (isopropyl), which is the kind used in hairsprays for its fast drying quality. Yes, Active Express also uses the emollient (healthy) cetyl alcohol, but I still wouldn't use Active Express on a regular basis if you're worried about getting dried out. Then again, if your hair is in tip-top form and appears that it's going to stay that way, I won't try to dissuade you :-)

SuperGrover, thanks for the info. What do you do for the overnight Jojoba treatment, just put a lot in? If so how much?

And I think you've answered this question before somewhere on this site...but where do you find pure jojoba oil? Somewhere other than Sally, I'm sure!

Here in Canada I got my Jojoba at a healthfood/nutrition store (Nutrition House).

Oh really? I will have to double check the label. I thought that Active Express Flash Wash Shampoo was drying, but that the conditioner was OK. I just use the conditioner.
It really does make my hair happy. You can almost hear my tresses sing hymns of rapture.

I don't do anything special for the jojoba treatment, I just keep putting more and more oil in my hair until I feel it is all covered. I don't even have to put a towel on my pillowcase. It doesn't seem to transfer. I dunno how it doesn't, but it doesn't.
Lately I've been putting some on my scalp, too, where it gets the most itchy. This helps!

I buy jojoba oil at my local health food shop. One of the larger supermarkets around here has it, too... in the beauty care area of their health food section. It's a very small area, you really have to look for it. :)

Sigh... Oh, you are right. From drugstore.com:

Water/Aqua, Cetyl Alcohol, Behenalkonium Chloride, Cyclopentasiloxane, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance/Parfum, Isopropyl Alcohol, Dimethiconol, Laureth-23, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Ethylparaben, Lauryldimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Prot, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Propylparaben, Taurine, Laureth-4, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Oleth-10, Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate, Lecithin, Sugar Cane Extract/Saccharum Officinarum, Phosphoric Acid, Citrus Extract, Apple Extract/Pyrus Malus, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Sodium Citrate

So many alcohols, I can never remember which are OK and which are not. Did I tell you I finally decided that Redken All-Soft Addictive was drying my hair out? It has pure alcohol in it... ingredient #2, I think.
I OD'ed on Addictive last week (no pun intended) and my hair was crispy for several days afterward.
But Addictive seemed so nice in moderation. Hmmmm. I dunno if I will use it again after last week's episode. I should probably toss it.

I really like Active Express conditioner though. I have used it for 3 or 4 years now. Sometimes I use it as a second conditioner, as a kind of final rinse, because it seems to be more acidic than other conditioners I have. So it acts as a cuticle sealant. It really does make my hair soft and shiny and more tangle-free than anything else I have tried.

BTW, What is Taurine, oh hair product ingredient goddess?

Hi SuperGrover,

I believe Taurine is an amino acid. Source unspecified. At least with "hydrolized wheat protein" you can tell from what it is derived.

It seems that the ingredients include a lot of silicones. I'd advice using this product in moderation.

:( I use it like once a week. I never suspected it was bad! I feel so betrayed.

Why can't someone just make the magic hair product that has all safe ingredients?
I think once I empty the bottles in my bathroom, I will become a Phyto customer.

Yes, Taurine is just a fancy word for amino acid, meaning it coats the hair shaft like any other protein, keratin or collagen-type ingredient. All Soft allegedly contains it too...I'd have to take a look. Speaking of the all the alcohols, I will start another thread of the different kinds and separate the good from the bad. You're right, they're very confusing!
