I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this. :-)

I'm a young woman with currently fairly long hair (about chest length) and am planning on getting my hair cut. The style I think would look best is a shag cut. Honestly, the hairstyle that I like best (and that I think would look great on me, even though I'm a girl) is that of Jon Bon Jovi. When I looked online, there are lots of women with shag cuts, but almost all of them were really long, so I couldn't really find any women with the length that I want. May or may not be a bad thing. ;)   I want mine to be shoulder-length at the longest point.

Anyway, my question is, how do you style hair like that? I'd prefer not to use mousse or hairspray or teasing or any chemicals of any kind, but I'm not sure what other ways there are to style it right, if any. My mom suggests blowdrying it with a round brush, as she does hers this way, but I have no idea if it would work or not. I'm sure it would at least somewhat. If anyone has any hints or tips or anything about Jon's hair is styled, I'd really appreciate hearing them. :)

Here's the general style I'm thinking of:
