I am really considering getting a perm but am scared because of being a guy. What If I don`t like it? Should I do it? Where should I go or should I let someone do it at home?

I know how you feel Scott. I used to feel that way. I have had numerous perms, some I liked, some not. I say go for it! But have it done professionally. Don`t overeact right away and get it cut. It will take some time to get used to. wear a hat until you get used to it. I have also found the longer the better.
Good Luck!

I`d warn against it. Male perms were last seen in the 70s, and there was a reason for it. Male hair had been long for many years and guys were searching around for something different without cutting it and someone must have said: "Hey, how about a perm?" So you ended up with Hall and Oates, Peter Frampton, Carrie`s boyfriend in the film "Carrie" and numerous Grade D popstars where I am in the UK. At least 70s guys had an excuse. I cannot personally see such a reason in the 21st Century. Unless, of course, you really want one.

Sure why not . But don`t do it at home. Just get a slight body perm at first if you don`t like it , it can be relaxed by putting contitioner on the hair dry and combing it straight.

Do not get a perm!!! I was talked into one by a beautiful hairdresser last month. It cost 100 bucks. I have since gotten a very short hair cut. Thought she wanted to date. Do not!!

I get my hair permed every 4-5 months and I love it! Don`t let some people scare you by telling you it will look terrible. Not every perm is a afro and makes you look lost in the 70`s. I would try a bodywave first, it will give your hair body and a very slight curl. Make sure you decide on a cut that suits you and that you can maintain. Alot of girls tell me they love my curls and they ALL want to play with them!

scott~
How long is your hair? No offense, but perms, not just on guys, but on ANYONE are totally out. Im not trying to mean or anything, just stating the truth. I guess very loose perms look good on girls if they`re hair is somewhat long. If you are thinking about dying your hair, cut it sorta short. Are you lookin for kind of the style justin timberlake had? That looks good as long as its not a fro. Perms seriously damage hair, so i wouldnt suggest getting one a lot. If you do make sure you buy A conditioner for died or permed hair. Hope i helped ya.

Perms can look great on guys, it just depends on the length of the hair. You should do a body perm, then if you really don`t like it when you get it you can wash it out, and you can always get it relaxed. Don`t do it at home, I`ve tried that before, and it didn`t come out the way I wanted it at all. So, if you deside to get your hair permed, go to a professional.
