Tired of Bleaching my hair

I've been bleaching my roots for two years. I'm ready to go back to having lowlights so that my dark roots will blend better while going back to having healthier hair. I'm a natural mousy brown. I thought about buying a cap and using a dark brown dye. I'm not putting any red (pre-pig) in my hair. Please tell me what's best to do. Can't afford a stylist right now.
