For those who do have their hair trimmed.....What is the amount of time between trims for optimum hair growth? I have yet to come up with a good amount....I think I waited too long last time (9 months) and my hair had a LOT of damage. I just want to try and prevent the splits from taking over, but NOT prevent growth from happening. How often does everyone here go?

P.S. Happy Halloween - or to those who hail from the spanish lands, "Dia De Los Muertos"!

I would like to know, too. I haven't had a trim since the first week of March, so it's going on eight months. About a month or two ago, I marveled at how my ends didn't even feel dry. Now they are starting to feel dry, I think I've past the point where I should have had the trim.

I moved, so going to my previous stylist whom I trust completely involves a fifty mile drive. That's not helping to get me there. It's so hard to find/trust someone new when your hair is long and especially when you wear layers. I wish I could do it myself!

Elissa - I have layers too, and I love the way they make my hair move. I have really thick hair, so the layers give it some shape. I know what you mean about finding a stylist who you can trust. I still haven't...but I have found that I am able to make any stylist nervous enough with my "third degree" during the trim that they are very careful!Anyone else? Dave? Amanda? You have great hair...how often do you trim it?

Jacqui,

I applaud you for being aggressive with stylists when articulating what you want. That's so important, and there are many people who don't do that when they should.

Hi Jacqui,

How often do I trim my hair? Not very often. Last time I had a blunt trim off the bottom was August 2002. I occasionally do a "dusting," search for & trim split ends. Good care helps reduce splits, so trimming from the ends are a question of aesthetics (how precise does a person want their ends to be?). I also believe that more blunt ends make the hair easier to comb, brush, and generally care for, than layered or uncut hair.

My hair is more than halfway down my back. I've had exactly two very small trims in two years.

Thanks for your input Dave, Girl Tia and Elissa...I guess it's a matter of whether I want to maintain layers in it or allow it to become one length....I am glad to know that i don't have to decide right away! WOW, Dave and Tia - you must have really healthy hair to be able to go so long.

Thanks again.

Jacqui
