Hello!

I have had short hair ALL my life (like a boys) until I decided to try growing it long about 4 years ago. As I have salt and pepper hair since age 33 (I am 37 now) I have colored it...well...since I was 15, actually......I went blonde for about a year, which started the "damage": fly-aways like CRAZY! I got a free visit to a spa and they put some kind of clear coat on it....and the dang fly-away got WORSE! I only color my hair dark now and am going to just let the gray come....so....I was cheap at first, using pantene...then I was told that it REALLY made a difference to buy REAL product....so I have been using Redkin's smoothing series of product...this helps...so does this oil mist spray I use on damp/dry hair....I NEVER blow dry...but I used to braid my hair wet and sleep in it at night with it braided....I was told THIS was bad too.....but I CANNOT...REFUSE, in fact, to cut my hair before I am 40......but these fly-aways are driving me CRAZZZZEEEEEE......please help!

Hi, and welcome

Do you use accessories? Sometimes a clip or band with rough edges can pull or tear your hair, so check for this. If I were you I'd leave conditioner on for as long as possible ( maybe even overnight ) to keep it healthy. Try using oil - some of the others know more about these than me.

When you colour your hair, do you just touch it up? This is better for your hair, but try to stop dying it if you can.

A lot of people recommend reducing friction on your hair at night. I thought plaits were fine at night, if they don't hurt and helped your hair. It would also be good if you could get silk or satin pillowcases.

That's all I know, but say if you need any more help.
