I`m 16, and my hair is my hobby. It`s been various colors, I cut it myself (I`m actually good at it too), and I take good care of it, despite the fact that it may be blue or purple. Last weekend, I was in a bowling alley with a few friends playing pool. A woman at one of the other tables was staring at my hair, which at that point was midnight blue with teal higlights. Eventually she came over, started asking questtions and told me that she was a hairdresser. I dont mind this, as I expected when i started doing unusual colors that people would ask me about it, although that wasn`t my intention. As she was talking to me, all of a sudden, she started seperating my hair and putting a twist in it. I looked at her, and she explained something to the effect of "I just love your hair and I wanted to put a twist in it." I found this incredibly rude but I didn`t want to compound the situation, so i let her finish and then excused myself.
Maybe I`m a bit paranoid, but I find it completely rude to just go up to a stranger and start playing with their hair. Any thoughts?

Can you imagine yourself going up to a perfect stranger and playing with his (or her) hair?! No, I can`t either, yet I`ve experienced it. I wore waist-length extensions for a few years with a few synthetic streaks of bright colors. Apparently any hairstyle or color that isn`t mainstream is game for people to touch.

You`re damned right it`s rude. I haven`t, but I have fantasies (well, not really...) of just touching the hair of the person who touched mine. Can you imagine the shock on that person`s face?! Maybe, just maybe, some people might stop and think for a moment what they`re doing.

Yikes! I get creeped when people I know touch my hair...get outta my personal space!!!!! I`d probably scream if a stranger did it. So, yeah, it`s all kinds of rude to do that...if she asked you about it, that`s OK, but just going and touching it....Grrrrrrr.
Hope that doesn`t happen to you again.
Love,
Ingrid

all sights and sounds I have been told
all hopes, desires, seem to sing
